SOLIDARITY

SOLIDARITY IS NOT JUST ABOUT UNITY OF MESSAGE OR VISION,
IT IS ABOUT VALUING OUR FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS AND
RESPECTING WHO THEY ARE AS UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS.

Vision

To be one with God, in solidarity with the whole human family and creation.

Mission

To function as the Archdiocese’s official organ (and under the Archbishop’s authority) in all matters pertaining to the Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan focus on Integral Human Development (IHD). IHD is the holistic development of the whole human person and of all peoples, especially the weak, disadvantage and marginalised.

About AOHD

AOHD (Archdiocesan Office for Human Development) promotes activities concerning charity, integral human development, justice and peace within the Catholic Church’s Kuala Lumpur Archdiocese. It operates under the purview of the AOHD Secretariat and Board of Management.

Everyone has a contribution to make to the whole of society, everyone has something particular to offer that could enable people to live together. No one may be excluded from contributing to the good of all.

About Us

Objectives

  • To create mission awareness and outreach among the Catholic faithful in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.

  • To work closely with Parish Integral Human Development Ministries (PIHDMs) and Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) in all Kuala Lumpur Archdiocese parishes to provide more effective pastoral care to the poor and marginalised in their respective communities.

  • To organise on-going formation programmes, especially those concerning Catholic social teachings, and spiritual and practical skills for PIHDMs.

  • To network with governmental bodies, civil society organisations and believers of other faiths towards creating a more humane society.

  • To provide direct services to these five priority groups: the urban and rural poor, drug addicts and people with HIV/AIDS, children with special needs, indigenous people, and migrants and refugees.

  • To organise the Archdiocesan Lenten Campaign and manage the funds collected for implementing humanitarian projects.

  • To serve as a resource and information centre on matters pertaining to charity, integral human development, justice and peace.

The AOHD Logo shows a pair of hands shaped like a pair of doves supporting the world. The central message of this logo is, “The Church doesn’t exist for herself but for the whole world”.

The pair of hands symbolises our willingness to be proactive instruments of God to actualise God’s reign of love, truth and justice here on earth.

The doves remind us that all of us are called to be agents of peace and reconciliation in a world which is so torn apart by war, disharmony and suffering.

We, as agents of integral human development, are committed to promoting solidarity with believers of other religions, cultures and especially the poor, towards this cause.

The symbol of the cross serves to remind all Christians that the Reign of God can only come about if all of us take up our crosses and walk in the footsteps of Christ. Together, we can build a better world.
