About Us

The ministry of Migrants and Itinerants (MMI) is under the umbrella of the Archdiocesan Office for Human Development (AOHD).

At the moment, a coordinator and an Ecclesiastical Assistant (EA) oversee the ministry. MMI’s primary responsibilities are to assist, equip and empower parish migrant ministries (PMM) and migrant leaders’ communities (MLC) to take up their roles and to support activities based on their needs. 

We are currently journeying with Myanmar Catholic Community (MCCM), Philippines Catholic Community, Komunitas Katolik Indonesia (KKI) and Vietnamese Catholic Community (VCCM), with plans to extend to more countries in the near future.

To be witnesses of Christ’s love and hope for migrants and Itinerants regardless of their documented status through our services, empowering lives, holistic development, justice and peace, and collaborating with PMM (Parish Migrant Ministry) at various parishes, migrant leaders from various countries, Catholic agencies in providing services to the vulnerable.

Our Purpose:

 

·            To provide guidance and support to Parish Migrant Ministry in their activities
 

·            To organize capacity building sessions, holistic and vocational skill development, case management workshops and formation on Catholic Social Teaching on Migration
 

·            To conduct community outreach program to create an inclusive community 
 

·            To network with Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerants (ECMI) of sending countries and also other Catholic agencies and commission for pastoral care and re-integration of survival of human trafficking 
 

·            To assist parish migrant ministry to build communities of migrants and itinerants in the parishes
 

·            To coordinate visiting priest for the pastoral care of migrants and itinerants
 

·            To cater to the emotional needs of migrants and itinerants in archdiocese or parish level
 

·            To organize quarterly meetings to journey with parish migrant ministry, leaders of migrants and itinerants community and pastoral workers

·            To serve as resource and information center for PMM, Migrant communities and other Catholic agencies in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur

·            To network with governmental bodies, civil society organizations, UN Agencies and FBOs towards creating a welcoming community

·            To function as a coordinating body between Catholic Organization, various bodies and parishes

·            To work with family life to encourage and assist PMM to form foreign spouses and foreign student support group in the parishes

·            To initiate excursion/exchange programs locally and from different sending countries 

  • We are a member of the Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerants (ECMI) of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.

  •  Every Parish Migrant Ministry (PMM) works together with their Parish Integral Human Development (PIHD) to organize activities based on their needs and capacity.  Ranging from coordinating migrant Sunday celebration, doing case management, providing food aid, running mobile clinic, coordinating visiting priests, and organizing awareness program.  MMI’s role are to support and strengthen PMMs in their roles.  At present, 80% of the 35 parishes in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur have a Migrant Ministry.
